Question Can I upgrade my i5-2500 and 1050 Ti 4GB ?

Hi I've been thinking about upgrading my CPU and GPU for a little bit now, and im wondering if anyone knows if upgrading from a i5-2500 and 1050ti 4GB to a I7- 2600 and a EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB would be possible ?

I have a Dell Optiplex 790 MT and a 0HY9JP motherboard. I'm not very good with computers so if anything is unclear I'm sorry.

I7 2600 will bottleneck a rtx 2060 pretty badly. That being said I would look for something like a gtx 980 used or a 1060 6gb.

What country are you located and what is your budget?

Your real problem is the PSU.
Are you still with the original 265w psu ? Then your upgrade options are virtually nill

Good point. I guess I didn't see that, If that is the case that 1050ti is about as good as it gets.

The 2600 cpu...yes.
The 2060 gpu...no.

Shop for a 1650 gpu.

why want to upgrade? Is there a game you want to play that your i5-2500 + 1050ti cannot run properly?

anyway, if you're upgrading.. first thing to do is get a good brand power supply of at least 550w. Your aged psu won't be good for RTX.

I suggest a GTX 1650 GDDR6, or if you have the budget.. go for an RTX 3050 (a 3050 is close to a 1660 - a gpu that is a decent pair with i7-2600). With 3050 you can ray trace and some other good stuffs. I'm using 3050 right now, and it can handle resolutions on certain games that my 1050ti cannot. But please don't forget get a new PSU first. In addition to being not strong enough, your PSU might also not have the necessary connectors to power up gpu that needs to connect to the psu.

If it was affordable you would be better off building a new machine. You may also be served better by the 3060 depending on the price difference where you live.

For the i5-2500 to the i7-2600, yes you can.
You will get you more processing threads which is always good, but the single thread performance will be essentially the same.
Single thread is most important to games.
More threads will help most for multiplayer games.

On the processor, run this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

If you can use a stronger graphics card,your psu will not have the aux 6 pin power lead that a card like the 2060 needs.
The strongest such card will be a GTX1650.

Can you replace the psu?
Perhaps.
Such a change, if possible will depend on the form factor of your case.
