[SOLVED] can i upgrade my lenovo g580 20150 model cpu from i3-3210m to i7-3540m?

Laptops are not made to be upgradable (except for maybe memory and HDD).
Even if there is way (some model supports changing the cpu), it's not official and noone know if the motherboard, power supply or cooling would cope with the new more power hungry cpu.
Since you ask here and not check it yourself i would not recommend you to even try...you dont have the experience handling such a thing.

Are you sure you have an i3? Because the 3210m is an i5:

Either way, the i7 would be an upgrade. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of anyone trying the 3540m with success in the g580. It seems like the 3520M does work so I would think the 3540M would work, and it also seems the full 4 core 3612QM also works:

Solution
sorry for mistype my current processor is i3 -3120M (lenovo G580 20150). Is it upgradable to i7 3612QM (both processors are of 35w).
Lots of great info in this thread. Both the user benchmark results and the service manual indicate that the 3612QM and even the 3520M are stock configuration processors, so I think either of these and even the 3540M you were originally considering would all work. :)

And any of them will be a great upgrade from the i3. :) Let us know how it goes!
