Can i upgrade my 8 year old pc to QHD monitor 27 inch 60Hz to 120 Hz current one is 1080p 60HZ - 21 inch
i got a new gaming laptop that supports QHD so i wanna upgrade my monitor so do my old pc can run QHD ?

Asus strix r9285 GPU
Cooler Master 750 w PSU
Corsair 16 GB DDR3
Seagate 1TB Sata Drive
Cooler master Hyper 212X CPU
cooler master k380 cabinet
Dell 21.5 inch monitor S2240L
APC ups 1KV

Yes, an r9-285 is capable of 1440p. Can't really say much for the rest of the system. Might be an 8 year old PC, but the CPU is from 2012 and the GPU is only slightly newer at 2014.

If the laptop is within 5 years old or so, I would say it would probably do a better job at photo editing.

It depends on the types of interfaces your graphics card has vs the types on the monitor. You should just keep that in mind when choosing a monitor.

It depends on the types of interfaces your graphics card has vs the types on the monitor. You should just keep that in mind when choosing a monitor.
My GPU got HDMI and VGA ports so that more than enough right [ R9 285 + AMD 8350 ] ??

BenQ EX2710Q - 165hz - 1440P monitor

Depends if your recording a higher refresh rate. Most movies are recorded at 30 frames at 4k for example so you will see zero benefit . Unless it's your own movies you've recorded at a higher res
 
Who told you it's 8 years old? Maybe you bought it 8 years ago but the parts are much older. FX 8350 is almost 12 years old and the R9 285 10 years. I doubt it's gonna run 1440p@165Hz smoothly.
For non-gaming, as per the original post, it should be fine. Won't really get any benefit from 165 Hz capability but shouldn't cause any problem.
