I have a Gateway 450 p3 made in 1999. It is a atx tower. Gateway was
unable to tell me the socket type of the cpu or if it was upgradable
to a faster speed. Any help would appriciated. I think it might be a 2
volt processor but not sure. Thanks in advance

Joe,

It's a Slot 1 CPU. You can probably install a 2.0v 600MHz Pentium III with
100MHz front side bus. Slot 1 CPUs faster than 600MHz operate at a voltage
lower than 2.0v, unlikely to be supported by the Tabor. PowerLeap also makes
fairly expensive, but very effective upgrade kits with 1.4GHz Celerons.

Gateway wants to sell you a replacement computer, not help you upgrade. So
someone "unable" to tell you the CPU info either suffers from creative amnesia
or is simply too new to ever have learned this information... Ben Myers

It's a slot-1 CPU.

www.powerleap.com is your best bet for upgrades.
