So my system right now is running a:

AMD radeon HD7770 GPU
FX-6100 CPU
and the MSI 760GM-P23 board.

i can't play the games on my rig as i was before so i wanted to upgrade to a 750ti i can buy for 80 bux. is it worth it for peformance increase or is changing out the whole system a better option?

Thanks

If you build around this part list (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t96CXH), You will have a pretty solid |medium - high| setting gaming experience. If you could pickup the 1050ti. That would be even better, card is a beast for the price. (from personal experience)

I'm afraid to say it, but you will probably be very disappointed in your investment. I would personally try to rebuild an entire rig with 9** series or 10** Nvidia cards. Whichever fits better in your price range (also factor in AMD). Search around your local area for parts. You might be pleasantly surprised with what you will be able to find with good quality and low prices.

a bit
if you want new rig i have some in my mind
CPU: i7 4770 or 4790
MB: any cheap socket 1150 with 2 slots of ram (4 slots optional)
Ram: 8GB (8x2GB optional)
VGA: 1050ti or 1060 6gb
or
CPU: i7 3770
MB: any cheap socket 1155 with 2 slots of ram (4 slots optional)
Ram: 8GB (8x2GB optional)
VGA: 1050ti or 1060 6gb

they might be huge upgrade but you can play game in 1080p with those card without bottleneck

I disagree on a GPU upgrade being useless. A 7770 was just entering the mid-range. Plenty of games that will run okay on an FX-6100 with a decent GPU. However, I do agree that an upgrade is in order.

Buying into Ryzen is a decent choice, since it gives you an upgrade path.

Depending on the budget, a used office system can be a huge bargain. A great way to get RAM, CPU, and motherboard (and a spare hard drive). Then just a matter of buying a GPU and swapping it into your current case/power supply.

Well upgrading your GPU right now will ensure any future system will still be good. The investment will not be lost.

You can follow the x50 branch of GTX cards as most of these models do not require a 6-pin power connector: 750, 750Ti, 950, 1050, 1050Ti.
So if you get for example a GTX 1050, it will still be good for gaming if you upgrade for a new Intel/Ryzen PC.

In your current setup, a new card will tell you whether your CPU is the problem.

Also a good way to improve an older PC's performance is to get an SSD for faster boot and game loading times.

depends on the office computer, most office computers today are slim models or mini PC's so if the OP ends up getting one of them their upgrade paths would be extremely limited

The idea being that most people only need a single expansion card in the form of a GPU. (Maybe a sound card if the audio on the board is subpar, but there is always USB audio these days) So a Micro ATX motherboard isn't really a problem.

Also that we know there is an available chassis that the FX-6100 is in, so GPU space and expansion slots and PSU are a known quantity to the OP.

The most common issues with a transplant are annoying custom front panel headers or PSU cables. Though people tend to make adapters for them or can be manually re-wired.
