Can I use 2 identical sets of ram?

So right now I currently have this set of ram sticks equaling up to 8 gigs of ram.

I've been itching to upgrade to 16 gigs since my RAM usage has been kind of high even when the PC is idle for some reason. So I was wondering if I buy that exact same set I listed above again, would I be able to just stick it into the remaining ram slots I have? I've already done some searching around and have found mixed answers. Should I just say screw it and buy a whole new set of 2x8 ram sticks?

The preferred option is to use the minimum number of memory modules to minimize load on the system. So using 2 x 8 GB modules from the same dual channel kit would be the preferred option.

If trying to use two dual channel kits (two 2 x 4 GB kits), there is no guarantee they would work together due to variations in module characteristics. It would probably require trying several kits to find the combination that is compatible. This would be time consuming and probably expensive (return shipping, re-stocking fee etc).
