Can I use 8gb of ram from a 16gb kit?

My friend gave me 8gb (4gb x 2) of ram from his 16gb (4gb x 4) kit. It is the Corsair Vengence Ram. Will the 8gb of Ram work for me when I put it into my Computer without using the other 8gb he has?

Yes. Each RAM stick can work solo or in any combination 1x, 2x, 3x or 4x. Just in 1x or 3x you wont be running dual-channel mode, thats the only drawback.

Yes it will work, but you will not benefit with a single dim. Dual-Chanel is your best option.

Yes you will, only using 1 or 3 sticks at time won't run as dual-channel.
