I want to use a GTX470 on a 300W psu, a spare one, so i will use that psu only for the grapics card, will it work, will it break the psu for the grapics card, or will it break my pc?

First off, what's the make and exact MODEL number of that 300W PSU ? That seems less. For a PC using a single GeForce GTX 470 graphics card, NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 550 Watt or greater power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 38 Amps or greater and that has at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Though, total Power Supply Wattage is NOT always the deciding factor in any power supply selection.. Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C/50°C ambient temp, is the most critical factor.

Then, you might be needing an upgrade. That HP OEM PSU is not sufficient for the old GTX 470 GPU. I presume you are talking about this card, and not AMD's RX470 ?

The max TDP of this card is 215 W.

Ok, thanks, as I'm kind of on a thight budget, can you recommend me a psu that can power the card under $50?

Oh, and yes, I'm talking about a GTX470

That's a bit tight budget. I'm still searching for PSU models, within that range, but can you buy this PSU from Corsair, CXM 550 Watts. This isn't the very best of power supplies from Corsair, but it's definitely better than your current HP PSU.

Still searching for more options though. BTW, where are you located, US, or some other country ?

Hello Again,

I just found one online shop, and I presume this is from Netherlands. There are some decent PSU models here, but they are not within your budget. Only the Corsair VS550 is there, but this is an average unit. Not that good though.

Hello,
Thanks for finding that site, but like you already mentioned, those PSU models are out of my budget, except for those corsair ones.(They are probably the ones I would buy if there were no other cheaper alternatives) I found this one on a other site: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/spire-pear...058083944?referrer=socialshare_pdp_androidapp

Is it any good?

That PSU is garbage. The VS might be OK if its the newer grey model and not a green or orange model. How much are you paying for the GTX 470? You might be better off with a GTX 1050 or GTX 1650 that doesn't require a pci-e power connection, plus they are faster than that old GTX 470.

I'm sorry for this very late reply, but the GTx470 costed me €20 with shipping costs.

Yup, that's correct. Even I was unable to find a decent PSU within the $50 range for the OP. :(
Hi, sorry for this late reply, but I thought that I would post a followup anyway, so the GPU has arrived, and I bought a cheap fsp 700w psu for €35 with shipping costs, I looked at the Dutch reviews for that model, and the only reviews that I could find were positive, so I bought it. Here's a link to the specs :https://bulk.fsp-europe.com/fsp700-50arn-85-eol
What do you think? A good deal or did I make a dumb mistake
Greetings from the Netherlands
