A GhislainG stated, the real question here is how much RAM your motherboard can support. In your question you mention that your motherboard is compatible with 8gb of RAM, so that should not be a problem.
Note that when buying the ram you should be careful to buy the right number of modules (sticks) for your motherboard. For instance, if your motherboard has 4 memory slots and supports 8gb DDR2, then 4 2gb memory modules would be the way to go.
