[SOLVED] Can I use a PCI Express 3.0 Nvme in an older motherboard with only PCI Express 2.0?

Just curious if this can be done....I'm building a new PC soon that is up to date, but I need a new drive for my current build immediately.

Will there be a huge performance hit? Will it work? According to my manual my current specs are : PCI Express X 1 Gen 2.0 slot(s)

Is this something an older bios or chipset could effect?

It's an old budget board ECS A75F2-A2 (V1.0)

AMD A75 chipset, socket FM2

Yeah I know it's junk in the current era lol. Upgrading really soon, it's holding back my nice video card.

It does not have an M.2 port.

An NVMe drive might work (very slowly) as a secondary drive in an adapter in a PCIe slot.
But not as the OS drive.

Wait until you spec out the new system, and get a compatible drive.

Wow ok thanks...I did not know about the M.2 port. I'm gonna have to to do some reading/studying to get back up to speed. I don't wanna buy a mobo that is lacking anything important.
