I have a computer that stays really cool as it is, and just to be really cool and have a safeguard, can i use a small desk fan and point it into an air intake. My case came with one fan in the back for exhaust and it says an optional one can be installed in the front for intake. so can i put a fan there blowing air through there?

Solution
Dear what you really need is not that difficult. You don't need external fan at all. Follow these steps:

Install one 120mm fan on front side in push configuration that is it will be throwing fresh air inside the case.
Install one or two 120mm fans on the top side in pull configuration that is it or they will be throwing hot air outside the case.
One fan in the back in the pull configuration that is it will be throwing hot air outside the case.

That's all. Before doing that check that your chassis has enough support for these fan mountings. Most Mid towers have this support. If not sure tell me your chassis model, I'll confirm you.

Happy Hunting!

but until i get one can i use an external one and it be safe?

SAFE! No guarantee really. How would you manage the speed. All fans of the case if synchronized will give good result. Too much air with pressure if going in the case with exhaust from inside the case is at low then it may create problem.

Dear,

Has your question been answered satisfactorily? Should you have more question pl let me know. Thanks

Ive been using an external fan that has no business cooling my pc's hardware(the cpu more specifically), for the last 2 years. Never had any issues with overheating and shutting down. That only happens when the stream of air from the external fan isnt pointing directly at the cpus broken, internal fan that got outsourced to the fan i point at it now. In fact the external fan is starting to break down now and the pc seems fine, i guess because ive been letting the fan and pc run 24hrs a days for 2 years. But what do I know Im no expert but it worked for me.
