Can I use an optical output port as an input port ?

I know this question is kinda weird and makes no sense but im concerned if I can use an optical output port from a sound card as an input port. I have a 2 pc setup and i want to capture the audio from my main pc to my 2nd pc with an optical cable. I will plug the optical cablwe from my main pc mobo and then plug it into the optical port from the soundcard but the soundcard only has optical out and I wonder If I can still plug my optical cable in there and if its going to pick up the sound from my main pc. The soundcard is an Asus Xonar DGX
