Can I use DDR3 1666 in a HP Z600 "C" motherboard?

can I put DDR3 1666 in the HP Z600 C motherboard? I realize it will downclock to my CPU's (2x 5650) (memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport low profile 24Gb 6x4) I have the memory already for a project never built

The Z600 use DDR3 SDRAM ECC

That motherboard supports ECC RAM and I think this RAM pack you said is non-ECC, right? The speed at which they can run is up to the processor as well and I think those 5650 Xeons can run 1333 RAM.

ECC and non-ECC RAM can be mixed too only if the motherboards does not require ECC, however, I think yours does. (Although it's not explicitly stated that non-ECC will not work)

Also the BIOS has to be able to force the ECC modules to operate in non-ECC mode (if you're mixing them).

I don't think it will work but only way to make sure is if you put them on the board and try?

One more thing (though you don't want to do that) mixing ECC and non-ECC in a way defeats the purpose of ECC RAM.

Do the Z400 and Z600 share the same motherboard? And Bios do they have the same bios? I'm looking on HP forums, people are saying they have them running non-ECC and some people are saying they won't do it. How many votes do I get to just try it? LOL

Well, I had the memory so I installed six sticks of the Crucial Sport. bios recognizes it without any errors, I shall proceed later today with a fresh Windows 10 Pro install and get back with stability results. . . . . (update) Well folks, I did the fastest load of windows ten I've ever seen LOL. The DDR3 1666 is running flawlessly, the system is running flawlessly and for an 8 year old computer this thing is totally amazing, AMAZING!!! Smooth as silk, now it's time to celebrate with a fresh cup of coffee and mentally prepare myself to clean up my desk for the new "The Beast" computer. The answer to my question so far is; even though it's not stated clearly in the documentation, the Z600 system can run with Crucial DDR3 1666 ultra low profile memory that appears to be non-ECC but again it's not clear in the documentation if ECC is supported by this memory LOL, but it works so far, full load of windows 10 no problem. I will get back in a couple of days and report if there's been any hiccups, right now it looks to be dialed in

I'm on the computer now with the memory in question in it, so I'm calling this a yes, yes you can use this memory in the C board Z600
