Can I use hdmi output from GEforce 210 card to drive 2.1 PC speakers

I have pretty simple PC setup, the 2.1 channel speakers are connected to the onboard sound card. From the past week or so i am getting static from the speakers.
I have tried most of the tips available online to get rid of it but that hasn't helped much.
it seems that the onboard sound card is the culprit here and wish to bypas it totally
I have a GEFORCE 210 graphics card with an HDMI out.
Probably this is a dumb question, but is there a way by which i can drive the PC speakers using the HDMI output..any hdmi converter cable with female 3.5mm jack to which i can hook my 2.1 speaker male 3.5mm jack
or
any other simpler way to achieve the same

The major problem here is that the HDMI audio signal is digital and your speakers require an analogue input.
You cannot use a simple adaptor cable,you would need to use a digital to analogue converter which are quite expensive.
The simplest way would be to pick up a cheap used receiver as this would give you the necessary HDMI input and analogue output.

Thanks for your response
I understand now that a receiver is needed to convert the digital sound out to an analog signal accepted by the speaker...i checked for receivers online and they are quite pricey.
so i would probably not use the HDMI out at all
will get back to check the issue with onboard sound card
probably will have reinstall windows 8
