Can I use my 8pin + 6pin connector from my old gpu and use just the 8 pin on my new gpu?

So at the moment I have an Gigabyte g1 amd r9 390x which uses 8 pin + 6 pin cables. I am now upgrading to a gtx 1070 from EVGA which only has an 8 pin slot. Can I just use 8 pin and leave the 6 pin on the side or do I need to tweak anything for there to be a stable amount of voltage being supplied?

Using the 8 pin will work just fine, no need to tweak anything.
