Can i use my gtx 980 with a 1440p monitor?

I am planning on getting a monitor and really want a 1440p monitor 144hz but I don't know if I can run games well with a 980 on 1440p. I want at least 60 fps and if not then 1080p 144hz monitor. If advance none has experience with a 980 and 1440p monitor please help. Thank you all in advance!

The question you should ask yourself is what is magical about 60fps vs say 50fps. But the answer to your main question is it depends on the game you're playing. But very likely with today's games, a GTX980 will be able to do 50-60+ fps. Look into GSync if screen artifacts are what you're trying to avoid.

Above is a review of the 980. A 1440P monitor will be about 10% faster in FPS than the 2560X1600 display in the review. Seems pretty good to me. A 980TI would be better.

I'm just used to 60 fps so I can tell when it's below 60 and it annoys me cause I feel like I'm not reaching what I want.

If you want above 60 for every game at 1440P then you need a top quality overclocked 980ti. Otherwise a normal 980ti will get you at least 60 for any 1080P game.

Better step up to a GTX980TI then.
