I want to try and build my own PC. Can I use my old 2008 HP Pavillion case? My system crashed...the motherboard is bad according to the repair tech. He said not to sink another penny into it. I am interested in learning how to build my own system and was hoping I could use the case. Any ideas out there?

Do you have a wireless or wired mouse?

Batteries? Wired mice don't need batteries right?

The funny thing is it worked for a day and then froze. The first one worked for about a month. Hopefully this new optical one won't suffer the same fate.

Understood. Could have just been bad luck. It happens.

are you using the drivers (disk) that came with the mouse or are you using whichever drivers windows 7 installed when you plugged/installed mouse.?
meaning you didn't install any drivers and it just started to work.
also are you still running on the on-board video or did you finally get the dedicated plug-in card that was discussed earlier in the thread.?
how well does the aero feature work in windows 7 with the on-board video if using it.?

Mal~I haven't gotten any of the extras yet...Just waiting until I have an extra hundred dollars laying around...😀 The plan is to get a new monitor...then look at graphic cards. I just have to get Christmas paid off first!

I generally tend to buy a pretty decent mouse. I have seen some of the no name brands die nearly instantly, so it does happen. I have also seen them last forever as well. You may have just found a bad lot of them and since moving to a new, better rodent you may have solved the problem.

Hi ColGeek! It was an off brand name...and the second one did die pretty quick. The Logitech was also pretty cheap...$10...but I think this is a pretty reliable brand.

Howdy to you guys, too! I have several Logitech meeses and have had no trouble from any of them. Not too shabby a brand.

Actually external speakers like yours are almost always better than the speakers built into monitors. What malmental was suggesting, I think, based on the crappiness of most monitor speakers, is to not use them as a "plus" when considering which monitor to buy.

I probably won't buy a monitor yet anyway...It would cause an argument with the DH that I don't feel like having..LOL! I just was getting sucked in by the so called $100.00 off that tigerdirect was selling. I have to buy new tires for the car first.

ETA trying to educate myself for when the time comes.

Priorities are a good thing, as is gained knowledge.

as stated the monitor from tigerdirect has a better ratio for display...

Mal~Is it the dynamic contrast ratio that you are talking about?

ETA...If so than the other monitor you suggested one page back is still better than both of these...I think. 😀

Yo back at ya! Things are going well.

You know I keep getting notices to choose a best answer from Tom's forum. Not sure how to do that since it has been such a long conversation! !0 pages no less. How are things out your way? The new computer is awesome, although I have put an indefinite hold on buying a new monitor. Got the new tires though.

Malmental deserves the best answer for the GREAT config advice given. Pick him, and yes, we (including you) earn credits for responding to threads. HOOAH!!!!
