Question Can i use the extra four pin connector on a 20/24 pin PSU connector to plug in to a motherboard?

I have an HP mini desktop computer. The motherboard inside only has two separate 4-pin connectors for the main power. The power supply I would like to put in this case only has one 4-pin connector on it, but it does have the 20/24-pin CPU plug. Since my motherboard does not have a 20 or 24 pin socket for power, can I break the 4-pin off of the 20/24 pin connector and plug it into the second 4-pin socket on the MB?

Welcome to the forums my friend!

The 24 pin ATX MB power cannot be used for 4 pin CPU power.

However I suspect like many HP mini desktops, it is a proprietory motherboard, so you can only use proprietory PSUs to go with it. A normal ATX PSU is not made to power those motherboards. Thus why it does not have the ATX standard 24 pin power.
