Hello, I have a older Dell Inspirion 3647, The motherboard is Dell Inc. 02YRK5 the Ram that is in there is 8 gig dual channel ddr3 @ 665 mhz. (9-9-9-24) I have some new ram but I dont know if it can handle it or not. I put it in and the machine just turns on and then turns right back off. On line it says that, that machine is rated for 16gig max. This is the Dell specifications Document:

SpecificationsViews

Memory
Connector Two internally‑accessible DDR3 DIMM sockets
Type DDR3
Speed 1600 MHz
Configurations supported 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB

The newer ram is:
DDR3 RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1600MHz CL11 DIMM Wlizedle Desktop Memory PC3-12800 240-Pin 1.5V 2Rx8 Dual Rank Channel Non-ECC Unbuffered PC Computer Sdram Sticks Module Upgrade

Can anyone tell for sure if its just not compatible or is just too fast or what the deal is. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You should be able to drop the 2x8GB ram kit you've mentioned above but I must ask, did you make sure your prebuilt's BIOS was flashed/updated to the latest version before you dropped in the new ram? If so, try with one stick then work your way to two before that. If that's unfruitful, try and swap the memory sticks on the slots.

Could you ass on a link to the ram kit you'd purchased?

Following the advice above to test each module individually and ensuring the latest BIOS is installed is the best place to start. If you have access to another system that supports DDR3 you could always verify functionality that way should these result in nothing working still.

There does not appear to be a technical reason for it to not work. The DRAM listing says it supports 1333 which is what your system is running at.

Hi guys, sorry about the delayed update. Actually I went back in and re-seated the ram, the bios was already up to date and current to last released, ever. Its and older machine. When I fired it back up it was fine and running great. Might have been a finicky thing perhaps or maybe bumped something a little loose it didn't like and that. I dunno exactly, but it works. Thank you guys.for your help.
