i currently have a laptop running xp home. I will be adding a win 7 desktop soon. I would like to have both computers on the same OS (win 7 home premium 64) Can i use win 7 up grade or do i need the full version? I have the license for xp but not the install cd as the computer did not come with it. will that be a problem?

You can't upgrade from XP to any version of Win7. You will actually conduct a clean install and start from scratch. In your case, you can use the OEM, upgrade, or retail versions to achieve the same result (of having Win 7 on your laptop). Look for the best deal, save your files from XP to another storage source, and have fun!
