I want to buy a i7-9700k but I have 3200mhz ram and when I look up online I can’t get any straight answers. Could someone help?

Solution
I have an msi h370 gaming plus but the site says it’s 2666mhz. Could I use the i7-9700k with this mobo to get 3200mhz? I would appreciate if someone checked their site also

H370 will limit your ram speeds. You need a Z370/390 in order to run 3200mhz ram. B or H chipsets limit you to 2666 max.

The i7-9700k is rated at using ram at 2666mhz,
The motherboard can use higher frequancies possiblly beyond 4000mhz
When you enable XMP profile the motherboard will adjust the CPU CBLK to run the ram at a higher speed than the CPU can usually normally use.
As long as your motherboard can use XMP then a 3200mhz ram OC is fairly safe/normal.

Intel does not depend on fast ram for performance.
Your 3200 ram will run just fine at 2666.
Here is an older study on DDR4 ram speed scaling:

I doubt you could tell the difference if you bought a Z390 based motherboard.

If you will be buying both a cpu and motherboard then I would look at a current gen processor and motherboard.
I5-10600K for example.
