Hi guys,
I was just wondering how well oblivion would run on a computer with these specs:
HP Pavilion a475c
512mb of ddr1 ram installed (capable of 2gb)
Pentium 4 3.2 ghz processor
Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS
160 gb Hard Drive Space
16x Dvd-Rom drive.

Also, what kind of ram should I get to upgrade to the maximum 2gb?

All help will be appreciated. 😀

EDIT: I have DIMM RAM.

you might be able to run it on low but it will be choppy

If I upgrade the memory to 2gb how big of a performance change would their be?

An 8800 would allow you to do medium-high. Make sure your power supply is strong enough though. I'm not sure about the RAM to be honest, sorry. Your computer is before my time. I've only been a computer person for about 3 years. Hopefully someone else can help with the RAM.

you would be able to play it with an 8800

your cpu will have to be eventually replaced if you want to play any new games as games are coming out now that need more than 1 core

most games are built to run on quad cores now even if they are not fully optimised for the most efficency

I don't recommend spending money on this PC.It's ancient tech really.
If you want to run oblivion well you'll only need
This card

And this RAM stick

But if you want to run new games as well, you'll also need a better CPU, which means a whole new system.

I suggest buying this CPU
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0093H8KGM/?tag=pcpapi-20
Along with this motherboard
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002MRROO4/?tag=pcpapi-20
Which you'll pair up with two of these RAM sticks.

And for a graphics card you'd like to buy at least this one.

But preferrably this one

I will tell you I had it running on a Pentium M 1.8 GHz and a GeForce Go 6200, so I am certain that it will run on your computer. It will however have to be played on low settings. I am willing to bet you can still enjoy the game on low settings, I know I did at the time.

The Nvidia 8800 GTX was powerful GPU in its day, don't be fooled by it's name, i had one and played Oblivion maxed out 1080p on a dual core AMD, with mods. 🙂 FPS was around 45-50.
