Hello there,
I've been on the market for some good headphones for my pc and found the dt 990 pros (250 ohms) were on sale so thinking of getting those, issue is that I can't buy an amp/dac at the moment and I'll have to run them on my motherboard dac for some time.

I was wondering if my entry motherboard can handle and drive them to a decent level where I can at least hear sounds loud enough and not super quiet till I save up for a decent DAC/amp soon

my motherboard is Asus prime H310M-K R2.0 (Ouch) and the audio chipset is ALC887 (ouch)

thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You can power the headphones as you choose using what you've got but you won't exactly hear a much due to the lackluster in the soundcard bundled with your motherboard. After all, the board you own is practically bottom of the barrel style, meant for an office environment where people crunch numbers, not listen to music with an expensive set of headphones.

Why not buy the headphones and the amp in one go? If you had a higher quality onboard audio solution, I would've recommended you try listening to the headphones on the soundcard you already have, then possibly forgo buying a dac/amp.
