Can my laptop display 1080p hd movies?

Mostly likely. They will just be scaled down to fit your screen.

Yes you can. But not with HD resolution, they'll play at 1366x768, just like jyjjy said above...

As long as your CPU and GPU can support the video (most any current laptop can). Your laptop display's resolution supports HD 720p. Why haven't you just tried it. Copy a 720p file to your laptop and see what you get. 1080p should display fine. Like jyjjy said it will just scale to 720p.
