Can my M2N32 SLI wifi deluxe edition support a Phenom II 940?

Got the CPU core temps down to a reasonable 45-50C idle now, so all is well. For those who are still experiencing high temp issues this is what I did:

1) lap the heatsink
2) replacing the case fans with higher CFMs
3) reapplied the thermal paste (less is more)

Though I’m still showing a 10C discrepancy between what PC Probe II shows for CPU temps and what HWMonitor shows for CPU core temps. Hopefully just a BIOS bug.

I haven't tried overclocking yet. I've been busy trying to address the higher than expected temperatures I'm seeing with Core Temp. Stock HSF was providing 50+ C idle and 66+ C under full load. It was during the summer and I only have a window AC unit in the room, but come on -- that's just too hot.

I bought and installed an ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler [N82E16835185125]. I installed it with the supplied thermal interface material. Now I see idle as low as 44 C and when gaming for 2+ hours I see 59 C. It takes time to kill all those zombies in Left4Dead. According to AMD, the max temp for the Phenom II x4 940 BE is 62 C so I guess I am safe.

The ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro is HUGE so make sure you measure before you buy one. Fortunately my Thermaltake Armor full-tower case is huge.

I too was seeing absurd CPU temperatures with the Asus software which is why I switched to Core Temp.

I still need to check what voltages are being supplied to the CPU. Also, I may replace the TIM with Arctic Silver to see if that helps.

I'd like the CPU temps to be as low as possible since I'm about to put in a second GFX card (Nvidia 9800 GT [N82E16814130435] in 2-way SLI)

I have it running with Phenom II X3 720 also. Only problem is memory can't run at 1066MHZ. Memory ran over 1100mhz with Athlon X2 6000+. Still getting 7500mb/s Read with 1000MHZ unganged. I can't do ganged either. Also the temperature for each indvidual core is 40 and the main cpu core temp is 60 on everest

I agree with roskoff to use core temps.

I have had a long weekend trying to fix these high temps with the Phenom II 940 BE and the M2N32-SLI Deluxe which is now supported, I have done everything right as far as I can tell. I've come to the same conclusion (I believe) the temps sent probe, speedfan and others is just plan wrong. Ill use core temps and hope I'm right as I really want to overclock this chip!!

Newest Bios 2209
BIG copper Zalman 110mm CPU cooler
Zalman thermal grease 2 day set so far (Also tried AS5)
Undervolt to 1.3 vcore (very stable) new installs should reset BIOS!
Good case air flow

The temps get ridiculous under load except the "core temp" which has been staying under the AMD max of 62C.

100% Load

Idle

I just installed a AMD Phenom IIx4 940 Quad Core in my Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe. I had to update the bios with the old AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core CPU installed. Updated bios to 5002 rebooted just to make sure everything worked. Shut down PC. Installed new AMD Phenom IIx4 940 Quad Core. Visited AMD web site and download a couple drivers for new CPU.
I thought my Pc would run alot better than it is but it's better than it was.

Better late than never, lol, but a 5 years old mobo that can handle a new phenom is pretty awsome for me, can do this any intel mobo?? can handle a 5 years old intel mobo a new i7?? I do not think so, maybe AMD is lower in power than intel, but your investments are going to last a lot more, if you bought that mobo in 220 USD five years ago, you want to use it until is no more upgradable.

I have the same mobo with a phenom 9950 black edition and works great with 2 new gtx 560 ti, I reach the same FPS in games than new mobos with newest CPUs, I reach similar benchmarks of people with new mobos and single GPUs like the GTX 590. Of course SLI gives you a boost over a single GPU because the second GPU handles Phyx, but with the sli I reach almost 50 FPS in 3Dmark11 benchmarks and my Graphics Score is over 9000, of course the score of my CPU is low, but is more important a good FPS in games.

I will Upgrade for the new Sabertooth 990FX mobo and the 1100T phenom, but I have to say that AMD gives you a lot more for your buck, if your budget is not unlimited, AMD is the best Option.

This is just an update for people like me that still own that awsome piece of hardware, but I think that is not worthy to upgrade the CPU beyond the 9950 Phenom for this particular mobo.
