So I have been wanting to crab myself a M.2 SSD. All I really want this for is to replace my Samsung 850 Evo SSD that I have my OS on. My concern is will my motherboard be able to boot from it?

I have a Asus Z97-A

Yes they are both compatible and your PC should be able to boot from it just as you would using a regular hard drive. Once (and if) you install the OS on the M2 drive, you might have to go into the bios menu and set the M2 drive as the first (or second after optical drive) [recommended] drive to boot from.
