Yes the SEASONIC built HCG 620 can run a 290.
It has the PCIE power connections that are needed and 48 amps on the 12v+ rail which is more than enough.
I would say maybe if it is a 80+ gold PSU but I would change it to a 750W 80+ gold unit (seasonic being one of the best) is it possible probably especially since your not running a amd high watt cpu, I would say its not a good idea a gtx 970 or 980 would be a safe option though.

The efficiency rating of the unit has nothing to do with its reliability or power output. 80 plus is simply an efficiency rating. There are many bronze rated PSUs that are much more reliable and stable than gold rated units at the same advertised wattage. Build quality is much more important than 80 plus rating.

Even under heavy load? I intend to game for hours.
yeah it should be fine, gaming for hours wouldnt cause the amount of watt to go up. it should be fine. i would eventually upgrade it tho bc using a high percentage of psu alot for elongated times causes it to ware out.
