can my Psu hold 970 ftw

I am currently running a 7970 but it's just not holding the fps I need On even the lightest of games. I am looking to upgrade to a 970 ftw. I am currently using a 650 watt Antec bronze certified psu with an 8320 and it's held phenomenally. I was wondering if I'd need to upgrade my Psu to swap video cards or possibly of there is a way to make my 7970 run any faster. (BTW the psu is 5 and the gpu is 4 years old)

If it's a HCG or HCP, then I'm sure it could.

A 7970 needs 550W. A 970 needs 500W. The 970 won't stress the PSU as much as the 7970 did.
