Can my slow hard drive be the cause of lag while gaming?

I just installed a fresh version of windows completely deleted everything and started Fresh because I I have been experiencing the same problems for the past couple months. The problem started when I moved to the country with the new wifi but we got at&t hotspot device that connects to a router that is plugged into my pc but I am not about to get through a game on black ops 2 without massive amounts of lag. My other computer works perfectly fine without being connected directly to the router and has no problems gaming with way lower specs than my custom pc. That pc has a ssd but I really don't think that would be the issue but I could be wrong. Temps could also be the problem because I only have one 200mm for the pc running at a low rpm.

SSDs are good to load data in ram at high speeds, you would feel the difference for sure on playing games, but in this case, you should try to switch the pcs connections to see if the problem could be your wifi. If yes, try testing your connection speed (several sites, just google it). It could be drivers, wifi adapters...

I use driver booster for all my drivers and keep it constantly up to date but if the wifi works perfectly on the other pc without it being wired what could be the problem with my main rig? And I have very low upload and download since we are gaming on an at&t hotspot I expected it to be terrible internet.

1. You don't need driver booster. It may recommend drivers you don't need, but frankly the ONLY one you are likely going to update is the VIDEO DRIVER (mostly for new games).

2. BOP2 has a single-player (offline) mode right?

If the lag/stutter is there it's not related to the NETWORK. If it is NOT there then it's either the DRIVE (texture loading?) or some other issue, but... since it apparently worked FINE before then the computer has not changed.. CORRECT?

Only thing changed is the NETWORK?

Again, confirm single player works correctly? If so, then NETWORK.

3. Assuming network, and the fact the OTHER PC via Ethernet (direct cable) works fine it is then the AT&T Hotspot device. Must be one of the following:

a) AT&T hardware
b) wi-fi in computer
c) software for the AT&T device?

Definitely sounds like a wi-fi issue.

4) Why the AT&T device?
Doesn't your Router/Gateway have wi-fi?

....

OKAY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONFIGURATION...

Is the AT&T device acting as a MODEM, then the router attaches to it (to share the MODEM Internet connection), or is the ROUTER a device connecting to the INTERNET (so has its own MODEM) and the AT&T device attached to it?

Either way, connect your PC directly to whichever device is connecting to the INTERNET not a secondary device (even if you have to MOVE it to test).

It seems like the ROUTER is the main gateway, and the AT&T device secondary.. if so, then WHY aren't you just using the ROUTER wi-fi directly?

OTHER:
There are alternatives such as:
a) run a long ethernet cable
b) use a wi-fi Extender (if Router has wi-fi).. this jus retransmits the wi-fi signal so place roughly half-way wherever signal is best, or

c) use POWERLINE or similar (ethernet cable comes from main router, then this transmits signal through AC power in house then decodes and sends through another ethernet cable to PC)

d) Gigabit SWITCH: (this shares an ethernet cable connection. only useful if you have an Ethernet cable but more than one device)

Sitting idle with no applications open there are massive spikes from around 100 for send and around 2mbps for receiving but there is a lot of fluctuations with the numbers I can't get a clear reading on either just approximately. And this is being connected through Ethernet

Okay, now I'm more confused. I thought the OTHER PC was connected via Ethernet so it should work fine now.

Please assume i don't know the EXACT setup and simplify how things are connected:

1. What device is connecting to the INTERNET (which is the MODEM)?
2. What device is connected to IT (the MODEM)?
3. How is the OTHER computer connected?

Also basically since I live out in the country we are very very limited with wifi and I have very low expectations for it but the nearest server that I connected to for the speed test was over 100 miles away I don't know if that plays a roll in it but basically the at&t wifi works for phones and online browsing on the consoles bat type is strict no mater what but there isn't much lag so I'm basically screwed.

*Please confirm this:
What device connects you to the INTERNET?
In other words, what device gives you an internet connection WITHOUT the other device being present?

Because I'm still confused. It sounds like the ROUTER is a gateway device that has both the MODEM and the ethernet/wi-fi router?

If you have a ROUTER attached to another router you can have problems, even if it's just an ethernet/wi-fi router using wi-fi attached to a router with only ethernet.

**Anyway, connect your gaming PC directly to whichever device has the MODEM. No other device should be attached to confirm that works, then we can progress from there.

OTHER:
If your other PC works fine in terms of the INTERNET then it's a completely LOCAL issue. Wi-Fi is only a short distance. It is for connecting your PC to a wi-fi router, not for the internet.

Basically it is called at&t home base it gives us wifi and that alone gives off one network that can be directly plugged into my pc but can only support 10 devices and this device acts as a modem. The router it plugged into the at&t home base to give off 2 other networks that allow more than 10 Devices to connect to.

Home base connected to router then have another Ethernet cable running from the router to my pc for the setup. So my pc runs off the router not the at&t homebase because it is limited with devices
