Can no longer OC

maximus gene iV z68 mobo
GTX 780



One day my OC failed (4.8 ghz) and have not been able to keep even a mild OC stable anymore. Temps are good .All symptoms suggested a PSU problem so replaced that but no joy. Ram is ok with memtest and swapping sticks

The cpu a i 2500k can run at stock (turbo boost 3.7ghz) with Prime 95 all day but even if I try to OC to 4.0 ghz I get BSOD.

Other than the OC fail my system runs perfect. So I know its not the PSU & Ram so Im left with the PCU and MOBO. Which one is likely to be the culprit given my system runs great at default settings?

Often times a fully functional system cannot indicate a functional PSU. It's possible that you're running into power delivery issues when you try to overclock. That is all based off an assumption though. Can you please post you full system's specs inclusive of your OS and connected peripherals? Can you please state the sort o f BSOD's you're getting when you try to overclock the system? You might find it in your best interests to state when the issue cropped up. If you're on Windows 10, it's possible the OS isn't liking the new clock speeds. If you are on Windows 10, is it based off the free upgrade path?

Aside from that, the regular suggestions would be to check if your BIOS is up to date and if they aren't corrupted by any means while you also verify your drivers. You could flash your BIOS again and see if you get dice with your previous stable overclocking settings.

OC stopped working about 12 months ago

maximus iv gene-z/gen3
1 2500k sandy bridge factory 3.3hhz and turbo boost 3.7ghz
Gtx 780
corsair 650w (new)
8g sniper DDR 3
2x ssd
2xhdd

Peripherals,just mouse and keyboard. I stopped worrying about the BSOD codes because there were a lot of different ones indicating it could be anything but I can post them here by overclocking again if that helps.

I have flashed the bios and reset cmos plus downloaded all the drivers from Asus website and updated win 7 as well.

edit. I live in Thailand and this PC has been through at least 100 blackouts and I only today found out you can buy a back up battery. Wouldnt surprise if the damage is a result of this

Just made a breakthrough. I kept my 4.2ghz OC settings from when it used to be stable and just increased the BCLK to 100.5 and got a 1 hour bench with OCCT

Can someone explain to me why a totally unstable system is restored by adjusting BCLK? Is this an indicator that something is failing ?
