Can not enter the Bios in windows 8.1

So my password is not working ( or I'm using the wrong one) so I need to change it. To do that, first I need to enter the bios to change the boot order to a cd or usb to the first boot device. I have tried booting to both without changing the order, and my computer goes straight into windows.

For some reason when I press delete or f11(the two prompted keys) on the two second splash screen, it still goes straight into windows. I have also tried pressing many other keys, none that work. I have a feeling that the keyboard may not be recognized in time maybe, so I tried a wireless and wired keyboard, but the result didn't change.

Does anyone know what's wrong or how I can fix this?

Greetings, Hardwarebird:

When the lock screen appears (where you would enter your password), click the icon in the bottom right corner. Hold down SHIFT and click Restart. This will bring you to the Win8.1 EFI where you can select Troubleshooting>Advanced settings and Win will now reboot into your BIOS.

Is this a laptop? Desktop? Did you make the computer yourself or is it by a vendor?

You need to find out how to get into your boot menu so you can just bypass the bios. You don't really need to get into your bios to do a temporary boot change.

It is a desktop, and I built it. In the flash screen, it says f11 goes to the boot menu, but pressing f11 doesn't do anything and it boots windows anyway.

I've had a similar problem. Try taking the CMOS battery out of your motherboard and putting it back in.

Thanks for the reply, sorry I haven't responded in a while.
Ok, when I go to the troubleshoot option, the only option is startup settings, which seems good. However, the problem is it only gives me the option to restart and select options such as Enable debugging mode, enable boot logging, etc. When I restart, my keyboard doesn't even register and I can't select any of these options (and I don't know which one I would select anyway.) I don't see how to access the bios.

I've tried multiple keyboards. I've noticed it doesn't seem to matter what keyboard I use, I still can't select the bios because the keyboard doesn't "light up", or "turn on" until the login screen.

Hello, Hardwarebird:

If you don't get the 'Advanced Settings' option, it might be related to your original problem, i.e. restricted user privileges.

But right now it seems your most pressing concern is the lack of keyboard response. As suggested by an earlier poster, you may have to reset the BIOS by removing the small CMOS battery and toggle the jumper switch if any, possibly even removing the CPU for a few minutes, to shock the system back on track. Hopefully, this will restore keyboard control allowing you to press DELETE or F11 in time.

If it doesn't, I'm afraid I've reached my limit.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.
