I recently started up my second computer system after it had been switched off for a couple of months. The last time i used it i was able to connected to the internet with no problem now it will not connect. I have tried a number of things,

repairing the connection (windows says unable to repair)
deleting and reinstalling the drivers
trying the network cable in another machine (cable is ok works on this PC )
doing a fresh windows install
Restoring the BIOS defaults
disabeling then enabling the onboard card

Nothing has worked i will add that windows says the onboard network adaptor is working fine and the drivers are installed properly.
My system specs
Processor Manufacturer: AMD
Processor Type: AMD Socket2+
Motherboard : Asus M3A
Operating System Windows XP Pro SP2
SATA HDD 500GB
System RAM: 2Gb
Video Card Manufacturer: Nvidea
Video Card Model: Gforce 8400 GT
Video Card RAM: 1GB
Video Card Driver Version: Latest Driver
Sound Realtek onboard Latest Driver

I am i missing something here or is it that as am beginning to think that the motherboard is the problem. The PC works fine otherwise and there are no conflicts noted in device manager.

My connection is Dynamic its Virgin cable broadband. I can connect to the internet with the second PC so it seems that the problem is not the network cable o r the Virgin connection.

And could i disable the onboard LAN and install a cheap network card to get online?
