Just built this and it appears all the drivers are installed. I can get sound via headphone but when I try to use AV cables from the sound output on back of the Mobo then to the TV, no sound. Using HDMI for video form the GPU.

You need to connect the motherboard to the TV for sound.

Does your TV have an optical S/PDIF input for sound? You can use this cable to connect your motherboard to your TV if it does. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812123013

You cannot just connect the GPU to the TV to get sound. That is just not how it works.

When you are using headphones, you are usingthe motherboard's sound card, not the GPU. The sound has NOTHING to do with the GPU.

Why not? I have a ATI Radeon 5k series running XBMC thru the HDMI to my 46" and it works just fine. Even without XBMC I hear all the windows sounds.

I'm not sure how else to explain that I'm using AV cable from the motherboard to the TV....indicating I do not expect to get sound from the video card....although it'd be nice...I just want sound.

That is one way to get sound, but it will not get true 7.1 channel sound like the motherboard is capable of. If you are going to be gaming on the PC through the TV you really want to use the motherboard for sound.

BUT, his TV may be the issue. For example, my TV has only audio out and no audio in except HMDI (not the best quality). I have to run my HTPC sound out from the optical port on my motherboard to the surround sound headunit.

Your TV probably does not support audio in, meaning you cannot simply connect up sound to it. Most TV's don't except through HDMI.

But he's not trying to get 7.1 or anything like that. Just to get the audio thru his TV. Before I had to use a DVI with a aux 3.5mm in jact for the audio before I got this ATI card and just ran it thru there.

I know on my Samsung TV if you use the DVI port it has it's own seperate aux in 3.5mm jack. You HAVE to use that Jack. I would read the manual on the TV before you go buying speakers. Now this doesn't apply if I'm using the HDMI cause the audio passes thru it.
