Specs:

MSI z97 SLI Krait Edition
2xGTX 1080 FE in SLI with HBB
16 GB DDR3 RAM 1600
i7 4790K cooled with Corsair h100i v2
Corsair HX1000i power supply
INWIN 303 w/6 fans

(without overclock on anything) - played Assassins Creed Syndicate @ 4k for 45 mins. Quit the game and computer got VERY slow. Restart. Run 3dmark firestrike ultra. 1st time get a score of 10210 (with overclock - cpu OC'd to 4.8 @ 1.350v). Second time freezes (with overclock). Take off all overclocks. Run the ultra stress test. 92%. Run the extreme stress test. 92%. Set fans to 100% and make sure all OC's are off. Get 96.5%. Underclock GPU's and set fans to 100% - get 95%. No matter what I do I can not pass the stress test. What is going on? And why does my computer get super slow after being under load when there aren't any OC's on?? All this stuff is brand new, nothing is over 2 months old except the 4790k, which wasn't overclocked until now.

Sounds like you're having a memory leak somewhere, after the stress test fails sit at the desktop with minimal applications open and look at your ram usage. I'd also take a look at temps during and after the stress test.

I have 8GB of RAM sitting in another computer. Should I switch them out and see what happens?

Had the same sort of issue with my machine, couldn't figure it out. Slow booting, unstable, blank screens.

Ran a bunch of tests.

The end result was it was the CPU that was the issue in the end.

And it did pass Intel's basic tests, but when the CPU was really pushed the above issues came up.

Changed out the CPU from an I5 750 to a XEON X3450 and it's rock solid stable now.

Can run Fire Strike Stress test all day long now, that and Heaven looping forever.
