Can not select my native resolution

I have recently installed a HD 7870 into my pc and I'm currently experiencing resolution issues. I can not select a resolution higher than 1600x1200 in neither my display settings nor AMD Radeon settings. My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 2223nw, it has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and it is connected to my GPU via a DVI to VGA converter.

GPU : HD 7870
Monitor : Samsung SyncMaster 2223nw
OS : Windows 10

There is little point in trying to set your resolution above what your monitor can do, at best it will interpolate it back down and at worst you will not get an image. IMO, set it at 1680x1050 and be happy.

Oh sorry, I wasn't clear enough when I posted the orginal question. The monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050 but I can't select this resolution anywhere in the display settings I've got a couple of options but 1680x1050 is not there.I'll include a pic of all available resolutions but all of the options leave big black bars on either side of the monitor.

I realised that I explained my situation poorly in the OP but I believe I cleared up the confusion in my reply to the first poster.

Link the VGA adapter you bought, Need to see if it supports the resolution you need.

samsung drivers for your monitor
this should solve your issues, its better to use drivers than manualy adding resolutions, as there may be other things like color calibration profile, exact horizontal/vertical frequency
