Hey! I am thinking about buying geforce gtx 570 for my desktop as it is well within mu budget. But before buying I want to make myself sure whether gtx 570 can play Crysis 3 smoothly?
I have intel core i3 3.3ghz 2nd gen processor with 4 GB ram. Previously I ran crysis 2 on my PC and it played fine on GAMER settings and kind of ok on ADVANCE and terrible on HARDCORE settings. As Crysis 3 looks awesome and I dont want to compromise anything. If geforce gtx 570 can't play Crysis 3 on high graphics, can you suggest me any other graphic card around $500 for my PC. Please reply fast. I can't wait any longer to play it!!!!

Ya and my 965 be phenom was bottlenecking a gtx 480 so had to upgrade and thats on par with the i3.You dont get it a 7970 would get a large chunk of fps chewed up running on that.he could get a gtx 570 and get the same performance as a 7970 on that rig.wasted money going the 7970 route anyway u look at it.
The GTX 570

Ultra - 17fps - 20 fps

High and Shadows and Lighting at Medium - 30 fps - 60fps

(So Medium Low settings would run fine!)

Might want to go with a 7950

(Edit you're CPU will probably bottleneck the 7950's power so beware)

(Oh 500 price range? You can buy a GTX 670! But i3 will probably bottle neck)

If your motherboard supports crossfire, a pair of 7870 xt's will give you the absolute best performance for $500 (turn off vsync to get rid of microstutter).

For a single GPU solution @$500 or less, the GTX 680 performs the best in crysis 3 (Though I recommend the 7970 over the 680 because you get crysis 3 for free with it right now, as well as the new Bioshock)

Seriously, gtx 670 for $500??!!!!
Guess u r right, i3 will ruin it... But can't change processor. :'( It has to be graphi card or a processor. So what do you say should I upgrade my Processor or go with gtx 670??

+1^, Crysis 3 can use up to 6 physical cores. They declined to use hyperthreading, finding that it caused more problems than it solved with Cryengine 3.

Amusingly, this makes AMD's FX 6300 and 8300 series chips pretty beastly with the game.

Crysis 3 free with 7970!! Can u tell me its actual cost? Which one do you think is btter gtx 670 or 7970?

It would be a waste to get a 7970 with that cpu.you wouldnt see much benifit over a gtx 570 since anything bigger will be bottlenecked

🙁 but will it play fine on low or med settings?

Okay here's a good problem solver

- CPU Upgrade ( Is a must)

- MD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX / 159.99

GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card / 299.99

+ Free Bioshock and Crysis 3

159.99 + 299.99 = 450$ (Roughly - Taxes & Shipping Not Included )

You forgot the motherboard lol

Darn it >.< sorry about that forgot you were running Intel 🙁 A new MB would cost you like extra 100 dollars, so really you're like buying a whole new PC :s sorry man I truly am.

the fact that an i3 is only dual core proccessor will hold a 7970 back big time. Its a waste of money to put that on any dual core proccessor. That proccessor would hold back a gtx 480 let alone a 7970

Haha! I am not planning to upgrade my CPU altogether! Anyway, thanks for answering. But I think I will go with gtx 570... But will it be able to play Crysis 3 on low or med settings?? I saw somewhere that you require at least an i5 processor to run it. Is it true?

On a $500 budget, I do agree that the CPU needs upgrading first, however this is inaccurate information about the 965. Either you got the worst 965 silicon on the planet, your testing methods were flawed, or you did not overclock your 965.

1. the 965 and the I3 are very different processors. Unless you fully overclock the 965, the i3 will perform better in games that use 1-2 cores. This is the majority of games, but newer games are moving towards more cores. The earlier mentioned Cryengine 3 - the 965 outperforms the I3-2120 in Crysis 3 even before overclocking it.

2. I don't own a 965. However my gf's machine is currently running an x3 455 and an asus dc2 HD 7850 (which is equivalent to the 480/570). The x3 is overclocked to 3.8ghz, and the 7850 is overclocked to 1200 mhz core (from 860). I see all the expected gains from the video card overclock. The machine posts 66.5 fps in uniengine heaven @1920x1080 with defaults + 4xMSAA and a final score of 1674. These are the same scores posted by people running a 7850 with a 2500k/3570k.

The only two games she plays that haven't seen benefits are Skyrim (a very CPU intensive game anyway) and starcraft 2 (also CPU intensive, but is still over 60 fps on her machine)

If an oc'd x3 455 doesn't bottleneck a 7850/480/570 then the 965, when overclocked, definitely doesn't. I'm sorry for your bad experience with the 965, but for everyone else, the 965 is very well balanced with those cards.

to the OP - you can pick up a ~$200 video card (HD 7850, 7870, or GTX 660) and it will be balanced with your I3; or if you you want to spend the full $500 on upgrades, I suggest

I5 3470 $190
Sapphire HD 7950 $290

good luck!

Ive done extnsive testing and a 480 deff does get bottlenecked by a 965 be at 3.6 ghz.I noticed absolutley no gain between a 5850 and a gtx 480 its the reason i upgraded to an i5-2500k.not argueing the 965 be is a decent cpu but an e8400 performs similar to it and its only a dual core

That may have been your issue right there. 3.6ghz is hardly any overclock for the 965 from its stock 3.4. The 965's hit 3.9-4.0 ghz on a decent air cooler. AMD chips must be overclocked to be competetive with intel's in most video games. I'm curious why you bought an unlocked chip and didn't overclock it. (much).

the problem is it was hard to hit 4 ghz nomatter what the 965 be was not very good at overclocking.highest i hit was 3.7 with a good cooler.Even at 3.9 its going to bottleneck a 480 not by much but its still there.Even being unlocked the 965 be were pretty garbage overclockers unless you do liquid or something.I did overclock it but only hit an extra 200 mhz out of it before it ran unstable.these werent like i5-2500 were all of them hit 4 ghz easy.back then the 965 be heldup well with the i7-920 which was the best intel at the time so it was competetive overclocked or not

For a reference of what CPU's can handle in Crysis 3, take a look at this:
Crysis3-CPU.png

It sure looks like hyperthreading is liked.
It does look like the i3 is at least as good as the Phenom 965, but neither are up for Crysis 3.

Your 965 may have had a hard time hitting 4 ghz, and I'm sorry for your bad experience, but your language is off. The 965 has little problem hitting 3.9-4.0 ghz, but as any experienced overclocker will tell you, every piece of silicon is different. two 965's will overclock differently.

I'm also wondering how you were trying to overclock it, and what your cooling solution was, because 3.6 is freakishly low for that CPU to the point of absurdity.

However, it's common knowledge that most 965's can hit 3.9-4.0, so your assesment that they can't based on your single 965 is incorrect (you can verify that with a quick google search on overclocking 965). Once again, if an athlon x3 455 oc'd to 3.8 ghz is enough for a 7850 @ 1200 mhz to hit the same performance as an oc'd 7850 with a 2500k, then a 965 @ 3.9 is plenty for a 480.

3.7-3.9 ghz would barely be a noticable difference if at all especially on a 965 be.They were not great ovrclockers not sure why your still argueing this with me.I remember before i made a decision to buy one i went to a 965 be owners thread forum and people were struggling to hit 4 ghz many were stuck at 3.7-3.8 that was about the average for those chips sorry your just wrong dude.like you said its luck of the drawn you cant count on anything when dealing with overclcking.saying they hit 4 ghz easy is ridiculous these arent I5-2500K'S you knowIve been overclocking for a long time im sure i didnt get a good chip but alot of people werent getting the 4 ghz chips. You sound like the guyy that would say every 7950 can hit 1200 mhz lol. Also if im not mistaken they made a revision after i bought mine so maybe the newer ones overclocked better not sure.My gtx 480 was factory overclocked to 820 mhz im pretty sure its quite a bit faster then a 7850 even if that 7850 is maxed overclocked.to be fair my 480 was closer to a 580 then a stock 480.We can sit here and argue all we want but im telling you i seen the 965 be bottleneck my 480 with my own 2 eyes and it would have bottlenecked it even at 4 ghz trust me.
