Can OpenOffice save documents in .docx and .doc extensions?

Im currently using a cracked version of Microsoft Office and I want to unistall it, I have some problems with it and its just not worth the hussle, I was looking into the alternatives and found OpenOffice, or at least red about it, as a good alternative, and more important, its free, since I tend to use mostly Microsoft Word to write job applications, will I be able to use an OpenOffice and save them in Microsoft Word's native extensions since a lof of people are using MicrosoftOffice and I dont want any unnecessary problems when people would try to open and read my documents in MicrosoftOffice while Ive written them in OpenOffice, anyways, any help is appreciated, thanks!

LibreOffice can and it's free just like OpenOffice.
I believe OpenOffice has been discontinued tho

LibreOffice still active, so you'll have plenty support for it online.

I use it and don't have a single thing to complain about.
Once adapted to it's design/layout, it's a great tool!

One more thing, once I unistall MicrosoftOffice, will I be able to open all of the .docx and .doc files in LibreOffice, because thats really important for me, once I install LibreOffice, can I click on one of those documents and assign it to open in LibreOffice?

MS office since 2010 can open Open office/LibreOffice format and LibreOffice can open .doc(x) formats also - though some of the formatting doesn't always come out right when moving documents between the two office suites. However, if that's acceptable than yes LibreOffice can be set as the default.

Yes, if you fully uninstall Microsoft Office, during the installation of LibreOffice, it'll ask for you for which file extensions it should automatically open. Just check that it should open doc and docx files and it will work without problems.

Just to point out, LibreOffice saves, by standard, in .odt which is a OpenFile Document, which isn't readable all that easy by MS Office ( gotta click in some buttons -yes or no- in MS Office before it opens properly ), so be sure to always save your files in .doc or .docx for them to be readable easily in any MSOffice.

Aside from that, no problem there.

Just to add to this if you need to send documents to others it shouldn't matter if doc, docx, odt.. Just export as pdf.
