can pcie 2.0 card support in pcie 1.0

i have zebronics 945 motherboard.it has pcie x 16 1.0 slot can 1.0 slot support pcie 2.0 graphic cards.

They should be backwards compatible.

I have used a PCIe 3.0 card in a 1.0/1.1(I think the board manual calls it that) slot for testing and it worked.
