I have a Gigabyte motherboard (Aorus H370 Gaming 3) which supports up to 2666 MHz RAM clocks. I see 3000 MHz modules that are easily available rather than the 2666 MHz ones. If I upgrade, does the XMP mode work such that these 3000 MHz ones can run at 2666 MHz, possibly at reduced timings?

Solution
The 3000mhz kit will run, but limited to 2666 ovbiously. It will default to 2133 and will run at 2666 using xmp.
What timings you can run at is really luck. You should be able to tighten the timings to c15 or something.
Thanks a lot! Here's an extended question.

I couldn't find options to manually set the timings on the motherboard. I only see the timing details, with everything set to Auto, with no way to edit them. Could I be missing something? Or does H370 motherboards just don't support any kind of tinkering at all (besides XMP)?
