Question Can ram speed effect a games performance.

My layout in a game called satisfactory is massive and i am using almost every node in the game in fact if they release something new i will have to seriously consider deleting something.
As my layout size has increased i have noticed a drop in fps after unreal 5 was added my fps dropped to around 48 , it does not matter if i am round a busy factory or away from everything it always stays around 48.

So that got me thinking ..... could something else be effecting fps.
The ram is 16GB HyperX FURY DDR4 2133MHz (4 x 4GB) and yes i know thats low by todays standards.
My rig is 8 years old and this is the only game i get bad fps on but as you know satisfactory is very demanding on a pc.

I can run games such as horizon zero dawn at 144 fps and that is a power hungry game.

This is the spec of my rig and before you fall off your chairs lolling please bear in mind its 8 years old.

Hey there,

Well, back in the day, your system was stellar. Even now, it's very relevant and can play games well. You have your system fully loaded with good tech from 8 years ago. That's why it's still relevant.

TO answer your question, yes, faster ram can help in gaming/FPS. However, not all of the time. For Ryzen based systems, yes, 100% it helps with faster gaming. For Intel (back 8 years ago)not so much, as the mem subsystem was really good, which meant those CPU's like the 6800k made good use of memory and adding faster ram didn't help that much, but did with certain games, and certain apps.

You could get a 2x16gb kit of 3200mhz ram and see how your system responds. It's so cheap, it's a good way to confirm how your system responds to faster ram. Some games do like it, so testing to be sure is the only way to go really.

thank you for answering my question and for your comments about my system

that game is cpu bound, too many calculations, ram upgrade might not help with compute
they upset a lot of players when they added unreal 5 because they also increased minimum spec and a lot of players said they could no longer use it ..... in a youtube video uses asked Snutt if U5 was a bad move and all he would say is it depends on which dev team you talk to !!!!

From your description on layout, I think you are increasing your virtual address space and
the demand for ram.
When actively running, open task manager, open the resource monitor/memory tab.
Look at the hard fault rate column.
If you see anything much more than zero, you can use more ram.

Make sure you have installed the ram in the proper slots.
