Hey guys am about to buy SeaSonic S12II Bronze 620W psu is it going to be enough? And if i wanted to overclock in the future would this psu help...
My specs are
Fx 8350
4x2 ram ddr3 2400mghz
R9 290
Bear in mind i got 3 hdds:2x7.4k + 5.4x1

I wouldn't do that.

The 520 is only a 480W PSU so stick with the 620W.

That said I would recommend going with the M12ii EVO 620W over the S due to the PCIe cables. You need 2 for that GPU and on the S 620 they are daisy chained on 1 cable.

The M12II has 2 cables, what you actually need to connect the GPU.

Well its not available in any local store here, and its actually a little pricey than the s620.
So is it goin to be a big problem the PCIe cable thing?

Yes, it's a problem.

You have an R9 290 so you need the proper PSU to run it with the right PCIe configuration as in 2 separate cables.

This one above comes with a case cm cmp500 for just 5$ over the price over the seasonic s12ii, is this b600v2 could be an alternative to s12ii or not

SS-620GB
Connector Connector Count
Main Power (24/20 pins) 1
CPU (8/4 pins) 1
PCIe (8/6 pins) 2
SATA 8
Peripheral 4
Floppy 1

I copied this from the specs on the original site
I can't understand it says PCIe 6+2 x2, so isnt this the 2cables my gpu need?

No, that's on one cable.

Price the Seasonic Focus Plus 650W.

That would be a very good choice, very solid unit.

Also the Seasonic G-550W or 650W if you can find one or in a pinch the Seasonic M12II EVO 620W.

R9 290 recommended psu is 650w. That card can and does spike over 300w easily. The FX 8350 is a 125w cpu, that'll top 200w without issue at stock values if pushed. Add another 100w for the rest of the system and you are looking at a 600w capability.

It's an FX. If not overclocked sufficiently, it's going to see very high usage in anything multicore such as gta5 or mmorpgs etc. It's a R9 290. That'll handle ultra settings at 1080p, but again, it's going to get pushed. You are looking at gaming loads easily in excess of 500w on the system before any OC at times.

While the Seasonic S12-II 620 is still a workhorse quality psu and the best of that bunch by a long shot, it's still perfectly suitable for that older system, but it's too small by a decent amount. 1 good heavy server 64man raid in WoW will tax that system hard and because that older psu doesn't have the protections that newer units do, it's entirely possible it'll trip and shut the gpu down or even the entire pc.

That's worst case scenario.

While you may not like the prices, honestly, shortchanging the psu is not healthy for the pc or yourself. I'd be looking for a newer, quality unit, at least 650w. The Evga B2 750 would be a good choice or any of the -G2/3, GS series, Seasonic Focus, Corsair CXM, RM, TXM, CoolerMaster V, BitFenix whisper M,

Yeah that GPU is a power hog, reason why I was stressing the importance of having 2 separate PCIe cables so he doesn't burn out the PSU.

So if you guys thinks s12ii isnt that good what about this one
■ BitFenix Formula 650W 80 Plus Gold
Or this one
■ CoolerMaster 650Semi-fanless Modular 80 PLUS Bronze

The price difference is 25$ and i actually cant go any higher or lower than this since cooler master got pcei x4 and bitfenix is as far as i can get financially
So what do you think?

Won't burn out the psu. Could have 4 cables, all of them come back to a single point inside, so actual draw is identical no matter how many or how few the cables themselves. The only consideration is the single cable itself which would need 3hot/3ground to cover the amperage of the pins. A single 12" 18Ga wire is good for @100w at 12v DC barely covering maximum allowances of 300w for the connectors, but that's not including any possible draw from the slot. It's doable, but not recommended if seriously maxing out ability of that 290.
