Can single port fowarding slow down internet speed?

I single port fowarded the COD World at War ports to my PC because my friend couldn't join my game but since I fowarded the ports he can now. My question is, can fowarding these ports slow down the connection on my PC/other devices. I ask because I have a slower connection at the moment and am not sure if it is because of the ports or something else.

It should not slow down connections. I had a billion ports forwarded and all other devices were the same speed in my house.

No it won't slow down your connection or other devices, Often routers have a certain number of ports open to begin with such as xbox live, playstation network and certain games. Personally i've never found "port forwarding" helpful

It's needed if you run a server. When I was web hosting I had about 10 ports forwarded.
