Can someone explain my temperatures

I built my rig about a week ago and was worried if I'd installed everything correctly,
Recently the case is feeling very warm (room temperature is approx 20 degrees celcius)
These are temps on idle: http://imageshack.com/a/img661/9676/F8aHeV.png

The GPU looks way too high, but I'm worried about the CPU too, could someone explain what the different temps mean and what steps I could take to cool it.

Appreciate all help, thanks

That's idle? They're not good, obvious things first, are the fans spinning? How's the airflow in the case? Does it go down with the side of the case off?

EDIT: CPU seems fine at 35c that's normal, that other temp at 51c is possibly a motherboard sensor and may not represent the core temp.

GPU temps aren't good though, what card do you have?

Techspot and Anandtech would disagree.

Room temp is about 20 degrees Celsius.
Its a R9 280X
Are you certain that the CPU is fine?
I'm certain airflow isn't optimal as I have a terrible stock case but I did it as best possible in that situation

Edit: just noticed that my screenshot has a different GPU listed, not sure why but it is a R9 280 X (MSI edition)

For gpu
Idle temperatures are meaningless. Set the fans to Auto.

Install MSI Kombustor.
Turn it on and see the temperatures now. As long as the temperatures are under 80C ~ 85C you are safe.

MSI Kombustor stress tests your GPU, as long as your GPU on full load is under 80C ~ 85 C you are good to go.

Also please do some cable management, it is disgusting, you are destroying all the airflow.

Also it is most likely using the technology that disables fan until the temperatures hit 60C or something along those lines, this is why idle temperatures are meaningless and anything under 80C is very safe.

Sorry for the late reply.
The temperature barely changes when I remove the side panel.
By the way, the temperature is 1600 not 16000 rpm

Edit: I have tested turning the GPU fan to 100% through MSI afterburner, the temps only drop by 4 to 5 degrees
Also, when I ran a game, the temperature reached 79 simply in character selection

Thermal paste? Isnt' the GPU the problem though

Feeling pretty foolish right now.
I'm using the Hyper TX3 Evo and I had somehow put the fan in the wrong direction (I probably made a mistake with the arrows)
This was causing the hot air to be blown directly on to the back of the GPU. I simply removed the cooler and turned it around.
I now get 44 degrees on idle and the max temp after 10 minutes of gameplay was 75 degrees.
Still not amazing temps but It seems much better (I hope...)
Will be getting a new case soon so I can arrange better airflow and hopefully save up for liquid cooling (Going to have to research that though as I have no idea how it works)

Anyways thanks to everyone who helped me. Really appreciate it.
