Hello guys, so it's Christmas soon and I've decided to wish for a new CPU.

I would love to get the i7-8700K, but my motherboard isn't compatible and maybe some other stuff too. Think i need a new psu aswell.

Right now my specs are:
CPU i5-3350p
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
MB: Foxconn 2ADA
PSU: Some 500W 80+ bronze (I think its crap)

As I mentioned, I need a new motherboard, and I'm not sure which one to chose. If you have any questions about my specs, please leave a comment. Thank you.

Is the system still in its original HP case? If so what type of case is it? Small Form Factor ( SFF ) cases are a real pain to upgrade in, and in some cases ( pun intended ) impossible to upgrade in due to their restricted space and poor ventilation.
Also:
What is your total upgrade budget?
Where do you live?

My case is not the stock one, its the Corsair CM 690 III mid tower. Not sure what my budget is because its for Christmas, but I would say its pretty high, and I live in Denmark.

I'd be happy to help, I live in the US but happy to answer questions and give suggestions and parts lists. I've built 4 PC's so far (in the past 3 years) all have run very well and Hall have been from completely from scratch. before I can do that I need you to list all your components, I can't help otherwise. what I will say is that if you want to overclock an i7 8700k you will most probably need a decent aio water cooler or a Hyper 212 air cooler for more light overclocks. your case dosent have alot of clearance in the front and for that reason I think it will be pretty hard to run a water cooler in your Pc, also if you really do have a cheap psu you will. definately need a new one. (aim for 650w, 80+ bronze is fine but get something from a reputable brand. evga b series have good psus for cheap). so yeah list all of your parts and we can go from there :)

I'm just looking to buy a new CPU, not overclock one. My complete spec list:

CPU: i5-3350p (stock)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
RAM: 2x4 DDR3 800mhz (stock)
Motherboard: Foxconn 2ADA (stock)
Fans: 3 Fans, 1 fairly big and 2 small ones.
PSU: Enermax NAXN ENP500AGT 500w
OS: Windows 10 64-bit (stock)
Case: Corsar CM 690 III Mid tower
SATA: 2TB Toshiba

I don't really know what more to include..

Okay, so you will need a z370 motherboard (atx for factor should be good, or just match the size of the one already in your case of that's all that fits) you have a nice cpu cooler so even though you might not want to oc your cpu now, I'd reccomend a unlocked processor (i7 8700k and not i7 8700). you will also need new ram since newer mobos only support ddr4, a new case might help but isn't necassary and definately a new psu (650w evga b1, or b3 would be my reccomendation but it's up to you, just lmk) let me know if all that is within your budget and we can keep working from that point. the mobo would be around $200 usd or more/less for better and around $100-150 for new ram depending on the ammount and speed/company and new psu will be around $80, the processor will be $360 or so.

I think it's fine for my budget, as I said i dont really know what the budget is, but you can make a list of your recommendations, that would be very nice.

okay, going to start with one in a bit. just want to know if you have a general theme you are going for (color or something) or any other preferences :)

well here is what I came up with, I have owned all of these parts and all worked/work like a charm. :)

RAM: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0134EW7G8&ved=2ahUKEwil_PjM0PjeAhVIR60KHWdLDMkQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw3_9DkScsK8M3ZzWSb_Yruz

motherboard: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Strix-Z370-H-Gaming-LGA1151-Motherboard/dp/B075RJHLBC&ved=2ahUKEwi3wPuG0fjeAhUJEqwKHTVaBCQQFjABegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw3HvEKnzkDgksx1cCIMFZU1

PSU:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYGFRL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QQ1.BbX70XGPH

CPU: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-8700K-Desktop-Processor-Unlocked/dp/B07598VZR8&ved=2ahUKEwi3oJ7R0fjeAhUGY6wKHXJNBGMQFjAAegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw08w5mFmuF8y59p5DIehc-u

the ram is Corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 memory at 3000mhz, it's 2 sticks of ram, 8 gigs each, that is $130

the motherboard is an Asus Rog Strix z370-h gaming motherboard, it has everything you might need and is really well made (its asus lol) that is $160

the power supply is an Evga supernova 650 watt g3 power supply, it is rated at 80+ gold and is one of the most reliable psus ever, it is $80 and is fully modular which will help you with cable. management as well as keeping the build clean looking.
you can also go with the $60 evga supernova b3 which is the same PSU but rated at 80+ bronze, this will mean it produces more heat (not alot) it won't be as efficient as the g3, making your electric bill go up a little bit and has a warranty that's one year less than the g3, with that being said, it's still a great PSU and extremely reliable, it's also still fully modular so that is up to you.

and the processor is the i7 8700k, the best gaming processor period. not much more to say really, that goes for $370

all of this totals $740 USD + tax, if this price seems a bit/much too high for you I can put together one that's a bit less expensive. these are also all on Amazon so they may cost slightly more or less in other places. I also don't know if Amazon operates where you are or if the parts cost any different either. hope this works for you and just let me know at any point if you need any more help of any kind :)

I think it's a good price, and I'm pretty sure I can get all that. Thank you so much for your help, and your time you've spent into this. I really appreciate it. I'll maybe do a little update thing on Christmas, or whenever i get the stuff. :) Have a great day!

you too man, good luck with your build!

I actually have 1 more question: Does the PSU have the correct pin for my GPU? I'm pretty sure that my 1060 has a 6 pin, and I just want to be sure that it fits.

yes it does, as all modern cpus do, it may be a 2pin and a 4 pin or a 6pin+ a 2 pin (both ship with the PSU) you can just separate the 2 pins from the 8 pin or put the 2 pin and 4 pin together, there should be a little latch that can snap them together/left to pull them apart. very easy to do

I would assume 1080p 144hz. if not he should get a 144hz monitor if he wants the extra framerate in games. 60hz is okay for casual gaming though, even though the change is huge its okay since monitors cost alot. I would reccomend a BenQ one, this is what I use: BenQ Zowie XL2411P 24 inch 144Hz Esports Gaming Monitor, 1080p, 1ms Response Time, Black Equalizer, Color Vibrance, Height Adjustable, Display Port, HDMI https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H5KKQTM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_t5gaCb9GAD5YZ it works amazing, no issues at all. 95% of pros in fps games use benq monitors for their price and great reliability and performance. up to you though, if you want one it's going to set you back another $250 :/ there are ones around $50 cheaper but they aren't as reliable, ones such as an aoc 144hz or acer one

No it's not all I play, I also play a lot of AAA games, sometimes I also stream some games.. And I'm getting a few lag spikes when I play AAA games, and stream, so that's why I'm upgrading.

The power supply is overkill, but it's a great price and will leave you with quite a bit of overhead for future graphics card upgrades:

Thank you a lot, but Nominath654 already gave me some specs, and I would like a unlocked cpu, that's why i chose 8700k. And i only need 650w since i just changed gpu, so i dont think ill change in the future.

np, if you play csgo I definately reccomend one, it changes so much. I used to be c- in esea and I had good gamesence but I just felt like everyone was able to see me and shoot at me and stuff generally but more so I was. missing a lot of awp shots and mostly flicks. 60hz monitor only allows you to play the game in 60fps which means that it only refreshes the screen and where everyone and everything is on your screen once every 60 seconds, this means you see people peaking corners later than you would with a higher monitor since it won't refresh again until after they are already peaking a bit more than what other people would, putting you at a huge disadvantage, every flick I did the screen turned into a blur of frames and it was very hard for me to shoot right because I couldn't even see when my cross hair was over the guy since the flick didn't look very fluid. ALL pro players in cs use a 144hz monitor for that reason, some even use 240hz. someone told me to try 144hz one days because it helped so much so I bought one and was like wtf. everything was fluid and I felt I was on par with others suddenly. I climbed from c- to a in 3 months of light play and improved immensely as a player. you don't realize how bad 60hz is until you see 144hz.the other day I played on my friends pc and he had a 60hz monitor, it looked awful and blurry and stuttery to me lol.
