Hello, i have posted a few times over the last couple of days just because i want to make sure im getting the perfect desktop for my money the computer i have put together on the website www.pcspecialtist.co.uk is this:

Will this run smoothly as it is? And run games like BF3 on high settings? I was wondering do i need the processor, Cooler and power supply or could they be downgraded a little just to save money?
intel socket lga1155 standard cpu cooler
450w quiet 80 plus dual rail psu
i5 3470

the above were my previous choices...
Also I get the message when saving my quote on the site "You have selected a 650W power supply, but based on our calculations you actually only need a 450W power supply. We have calculated your specification to require around 366W of power including a 20% allowance. Although it is not a mandatory requirement to select a lower wattage power supply, doing so will save you money and the last thing we'd like to do is over charge you!"

should i listen to them i was told on these forums once stick to the 650w corsair but it cost more :/ does it matter if the power supply is a higher wattage than needed (will it effect electricity bills more) lol Im new to making desktops

You'll have a hard time telling the difference in performance between the two i5 cpus. Since you don't plan to OC the cpu the stock cooler should be fine. You should check out the tahiti version of the 7870. Higher performance than the regular 7870 because it uses the processor from the 7900 gpu but sells for around the same price as the nomal 7870. The psu will only supply as much current as the computer needs. If the computer drawa 200 watt any psu will supply 200 watts no matter what the max power rating. Since the Corsair has a higher efficiency(bronze rather tan just 80+) the electrical cost maybe lower on the long run. The better psu can be carried forward to your next build.

ok so change the i5 to the 3470 and the intel socket lga1155 standard cpu cooler.
the tahita version is not on the site so i will stick to the one i have and get the corsair psu...
will it run games on high settings like BF3?
you have any idea how the AMD 7850 would perform?

you don't need that large 650 watt power supply unless you plan to crossfire in the future. If you want to save some money, a 500 watt would be sufficient.

however, as stated above, no matter how many wattage your power supply is, it will only use up as much as your computer requires so you don't have to worry about your power supply constantly using 650 watts

An AMD 7850 should be good too but obviously not as well as the 7870. What's the price difference between the 7850 and 7870 you have in mind? The price difference may make the 7870 not worth it and you're better off going for the 7850

in my opinion, there's no point in dishing out the extra money for a few percent (<10%) of extra performance when he wants to save more money. It doesn't appear the OP intends to overclock his processor.

the performance from i5-3470, i5-3570, and i5-3570K won't matter too much

650w is the only one on the site i can get, have a choice of not that many :/ you been on the site at all? i cant build it on my own see

If you don't intend to OC the cpu you can change the Ausu Z77 mobo to a H77 version.It should save you some money.

normally, your processor runs at a certain speed. Overclocking makes your processor run even faster.
Given you're only playing games, you would most likely not notice any difference whether you overclocked or not.
