hi, my OS windows 10, gpu- AMD rx 7800 xt,
So i'm having green screen crash sometimes since i installed this new gpu to my system and only during playing games. Before that i had gtx 1050ti for 5 years on that same system and never had that issue once. I used DDu to remove all nvidia gpu drivers except nvidia physx prior to installing rx 7800 xt. Can someone please tell me where can i find my dump files of those crashes? %localappdata%\CrashDumps and C:\Windows\Minidumps and C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports don't have those dump files.
Also can someone please tell me how to use event viewer to pinpoint the issue?
just before the green screen crash this is what reliability history showing-

uninstalled Microsoft gameinput and uninstalled/disabled Xbox game bar and ran "dism" and "sfc /scannow" but still that green crash happened. and there was no gameinput event on reliability history this time. Also it's true that at past there was gameinput reconfigure event each time i had green screen crash but there were many more times that same gameinput event happened though no green screen crash happened same time.

Also can hardware accelerated gpu scheduling be the reason for green screen crash?

Just as a matter of elimination try the mm/dd/yyyy time format to determine if the green screen crashes end.

= = = =

A "successful application reconfiguration" before every green screen crash?

Should not be necessary unless something else is going on. Look in Task Scheduler for any references to MicrosoftGameInput. May be triggering something else.....

Verify that the source for Microsoft GameInput is/was really Microsoft.

Just because "Microsoft" appears in the URL that does not mean that the source is truly Microsoft.

If truly Microsoft, try another download and reinstall. Pay close attention to any requested configuration settings.

Try running "dism" and "sfc /scannow" (the latter as suggested by @Fix_that_Glitch ).

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the date time change. It looks like the computer is confused by the date and try to install a driver latter than 4-12-23 perhaps?

- how do i do that?

Did "all the steps" include changing the time format? However, if the game input event did not always result in a green screen crash then there may be two factors involved. And the date idea may be moot....

Event Viewer requires some time and effort to learn how navigate within it and understand the information being provided. There may be lots of details; unfortunately, the details may or may not be helpful.

Event Viewer:

How To - How to use Windows 10 Event Viewer | Tom's Hardware Forum (tomshardware.com)

Take your time to look through the various logs. Focus on more recent entries.

Task Scheduler:

Type "Task Scheduler" in the Search box and run as admin.

Again there are many tabs and actions available. No harm in simply exploring through it all.

What you are looking for is any reference to MicrosoftGameInput.

Objective being to discover any error code, warning, informational event, process launch, that occurs just before or at the time that the gameinput event occurred. That could be the reason causing installer to reconfigure.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .
should capture the gsod dumps too.

Green screen can either mean you on the Insiders version of windows, or its the GPU drivers.

Sadly i got only 2 small dump files and they are like 7 months old 🙁 Though my small dump setting is set properly.

So it was already set up?

Is this just a solid green screen? have I answered this question before? seems familiar, green screen and 7800xt.

if its not making dumps, there won't be anything in event viewer. Windows uses the info in the dumps to populate event viewer and windows error reporting, and reliability history. Without dumps it doesn't know.

Gameinput always does something , even on working pc. It is on mine... had been for months, every day.

sees your post on LTT. Answers 1 question I had - AMD rx 7800 xt, i7 4790k , gigabyte z87x ud3h, 4x4 dual channel corsair ddr3 @1600mhz. corsair cs650m psu.

how old is PSU? might need a 750watt
who made the 7800xt?
I assume you don't have 2 monitors. - https://community.amd.com/t5/graphi...tups-dp-hdmi-green-screen/td-p/636049/page/10
Are you using display port or hdmi?

AMD looking into it, too many 7800xt have same errors. It might be the drivers or deeper. 7900xt don't seem to get the Green screen problem.

Unless PSU has a 10 year warranty, I would replace it. Get a 750 watt (Corsair RMx 750 would do), it might resolve green screen errors. I did see one person replaced PSU and they stopped.

Wdym by that?
Okay, all 7800xt are AMD cards but not all made by them, some are Powercolor, while others are Sapphire... there are other makers as well. AMD also make cards, just to be confusing. See chart at bottom - https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-7800-xt.c3839

Mine is from Asrock. Also can you plz tell me why my system not creating small dump files?

i don't know all the reasons...
It can be the drive they are trying to save to is the cause of crash and can't record the info
it can be because you changed the size of your page file and it isn't big enough to record them.

other reasons include:
  1. Third-Party cleanup apps: If you have a third-party app installed on your computer that is responsible for performing cleanups from time to time, this file may be erasing your dump file storage, so you’re getting “Due to an error during dump creation. , the dump file creation failed.
  2. Corrupted system files: Corrupted system files can also cause this specific error message. The corruption may have reached some dump dependencies so that the files can no longer be created correctly.
  3. Disk issues: The storage drive you are using can also become corrupted and prevent the operating system from creating dump files in the event of a BSOD.
  4. Outdated BIOS: If your motherboard’s BIOS hasn’t been updated in a while, you may encounter this issue.
  5. RAM issues: Dump files are also sometimes written to RAM, which can eventually trigger related errors if RAM is not configured correctly.

1 Uninstall ccleaner if you have it.
2 & 3 could be fixed with either sfc/dism or chkdsk
4 given age of PC, this is possible and not a lot we can do to fix
5. run memtest86 (see below)

SFC/DISM
right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

Chkdsk
open command prompt (admin)
if you have an ssd type chkdsk c: /f and press enter
if you have an hdd type chkdsk c: /f /r and press enter
2 paragraphs will pop up, agree to run on restart.
restart PC and it should ask to run then

Memtest:
Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the errors. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it
