Really, anything in our curated power supply list that's in Tier A and at least 750W will likely work fine.

What cpu are you using? If one that can take >200w I would be tempted to go 850w as that 3080 is very power hungry

Hello fordongreeman. While everyone's opinion is correct, I would still recommend opting for 1,000 watts (850 watts minimum). I've now had numerous friends that own RTX 3080's with 750 watt PSUs that have been shutting off during gaming sessions. Presumably this is from PSU over-voltage protection due to transient response of higher tier 30 series cards.

In addition, if you're purchasing a RTX 3080 then you're clearly an enthusiast. I presume that you may one day purchase a RTX 3090 Ti (450 rumored wattage) or a future top tier RTX 40 series card (550 - 600 rumored wattage).

Personally I would only consider placing the following brands into my gaming rigs: Super Flower (Leadex models) / EVGA (Super Flower OEM only) / SeaSonic / Corsair). FYI: The SeaSonic Focus GX-1000 has a 10 year warranty, and traditionally costs $170 USD. But for $30 more, you could get the slightly upgraded Prime GX and get a 12 year warranty. 20% longer warranty for 18% more money; just something to consider. And even though I haven't yet owned a Corsair model, I've heard great things about the Corsair RMx 850/1000 watt units.

I watched a youtube vid lately where a guy tested a 3080 system with all kinds of SFF PSUs like 450w up to 650w and IIRC the 650w ones did just fine. The 450 obviously shut down from protections kicking in.

I have been running a Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC and 3700x on a high quality 650w for a year now without issue. However not all 3080’s are created equal regarding their power requirements, see my earlier post. Also there can be a difference of >120w depending on cpu choice. Therefore although 650w works for my system it wouldn’t work for all.

EVGA FTW3 cards are the worst offenders when it comes to exceeding the set power limit, I would also err on the side of caution and use an 850W or higher.

So far so good on my system with my 2018 RMx 850W, but I've also kind of given up overclocking the GPU, doesn't seem to have any headroom.

Psus slowly degrade over time, so who's to say those other units wouldn't start shutting off after a year or so.
Overclocking also speeds this process up.

I have an EVGA 3080 XC3 Black on back order through a distributor at work and I have no intentions on replacing my SuperFlower Leadex III 750w when it arrives. I will likely do the same slight undervolt to keep power and temps in check.
