Hello! First time poster here after years of getting great advice from old forum posts.
I've just built my 2nd PC and this one has given me much more trouble than the first. The build is a 9800X3D on a MSI X870 mobo and RTX 4080 Super.
I play MMO games, and I like to run 2 clients at the same time, one on each monitor. My old (and much weaker) PC did this no problem. However, my new PC is having some sort of throttling issue.
Running one client, the PC performs perfectly. When I open a 2nd client on monitor #2, this game drops below 5 fps. When I click onto monitor #2, the FPS shoots up to a perfect capped 144. When I click back to the primary client, fps drops back to near-zero.
I have a 3rd monitor as well. When I click on the 3rd monitor, both game clients run perfectly at 144fps. It's only when I have one of the 2 games active, the other drops completely. I know this isn't a usage issue because like I said, my 7 year old PC never skipped a beat doing this.
I've exhausted all of my known options. Updated chipset, gpu, and cpu drivers. Disabled hardware acceleration. I've found the program in advanced system settings and forced the 4080 GPU and disabled internal graphics. I've tweaked power settings. I've honestly forgot everything I've tried. If it was easily found on google, I tried it. My most in depth conversation with a friendly "IT guy" told me to disable the X3D turbo mode. Come to find out that was already disabled. I know there is something, somewhere to tweak that will make this build run better than my old dusty PC I just replaced.
I'm running out of options and I'm praying someone here has experienced this issue. I have yet to run an actual demanding game, but like I said, the PC is running fantastically until I try to run background applications. Thank you for taking the time to read this and any input is appreciated.
