I am planning on getting this board, a i7-6700k and a kraken x61. I was wondering if this board would be able to support a mild overclock (~4.5ghz) without overheating.
I purchased the Asus Z170-E to use in my current pc build I completed about 2 months ago now. I am quite happy with the results. My intentions haven't been to overclock but the capabilities are there. It may not be listed as a "gaming" motherboard, but it can sure hold its own against one.
How well your overclock ends up being is due to a lot of things:
■ Intel CPU. Motherboard, Any Z series motherboard should be able to overclock any K series CPU.
■ AMD CPU. Almost all motherboards can overclock an overclock-able CPU.
■ CPU. Most of the time you need a CPU whose model number ends in K.
■ Luck of the draw. Some CPU's overclock better than others, even from the same batch.
■ Your knowledge of how to overclock is probably just as important as gettking a the lucky piece of silicon.
