Hello there!

So I recently made a thread about which monitor to buy. but now I think I have an another problem

My main concern is if a GTX 970 can perform on a 144hz monitor. on modern fps games, I don't mind playing on low-medium as long as I can get 120fps or even beyond for a better experience (I'm sure for one game though and it's CSGO which superseeds 144fps.)

I've read some positive feedback like it should be fine. but some negative as well like "No you'll need an SLI" (Which I can't afford at this moment)

Should I go for it?. And enable Half adaptive sync or something. or it will be not worth it and just stay on my 60hz one

My Specs:
CPU: I7-3770
GPU:GTX 970
RAM: 8GB
2 hdd's. one SSD

Monitor I'm planning to buy. "ASUS VG248QE) which costs around 280 euros here in Greece

Thanks for all your help in advance!

100 fps is usually good enough to get a fluid experience. It's hard to tell a difference after that, meaning at higher refreshrates.

I have a 144 Hz monitor, 1080p, 24 inch, just like the Asus. And an AMD 290X which is on par with a 970.
Sure, not every game runs at 100+ fps but I don't mind that. I have a choice of lowering gfx or having more fps.

Another benefit is that when I surf, monitors refresh is at 144 hz and that is a biggie to me.
If you have a 60 hz monitor, scroll on a webpage up and down, you will see ugly lines across the screen.
Not at 144 hz!

I'd say it was worth it for me. But the question is, is it worth it today?
Probably next year we should see HDR monitors, 10 bits for colors instead of todays 8 bits. Should...
If you are fine with low, medium or even high (below max) settings, you should probably be fine for most current FPS games on 144hz.
Upcoming games will be a hastle though so you might look into expanding your budget to get a new card in the next 2-3 years.
If you can live with playing FPS games that aren't GFX intense (CSGO, Overwatch, any of the CoD's) or if they are very well optimized (Doom) until you buy a new card, then go for it and buy the monitor!

Good luck with your choice!

Probably next year we should see HDR monitors, 10 bits for colors instead of todays 8 bits. Should be a big improvement. TVs already have that and consoles support it. So it is just a question when that comes to PC monitors as well.
The other thing is resolution of the screen. 1080p is getting old and 1440p or 4k is the next step.
People don't game at 640x480 anymore. Nor at 1024x768. Those were standard gaming resolutions at a certain point in time. Resolutions keep going up all the time.

TLDR:
Today, I would look at minimum 1440p monitor @ 28 inches. Maybe even wait a year for HDR monitors.

Thanks a lot.
Maybe after 3 years I might try to put some money on the side for a 1070 or something.

Also yeah. I love DOOM and the new COD looks promising. also I'm looking forward to play Far Cry 4 with it
